Welcome!

Welcome to my blog!

If you are looking to get someone's honest opinion on their experience with Smart Lipo, you're in the right spot!

On June 30th, 2011, I had my first experience with Smart Lipo. Eight days before my 31st birthday! I had been toying with the idea of plastic surgery for the past four plus years. I finally took the leap and what a leap it was!

I figured now was the best time to tell about my experience, while I'm still living it!

It is my hope that this blog will help others know what to expect going into the procedure so that they can be adequately prepared. There's no motive. No bias. Just a girl sharing her experience with others :]

I read a lot of different web sites, from doctors offices to blogs, and I don't feel like I had any real insight into any one person's experience that prepared me for what I was about to endure so I decided to write this blog so that others who are considering doing Smart Lipo will have a honest (perhaps too honest) opinion about one girl's experience. I'll warn you now - I don't intend on censoring much. I'm going to be graphic in describing the experience because, honestly, there's really no other way to say it and be real about it.

Please feel free to ask questions - nothing is "too personal" - I promise!

  1. So glad I found this. I just had my consult with Dr. Kaufmann yesterday. A little nervous that you felt you needed to do it twice.

    1. what part of the body are you having done? if you're getting your abdomen done, the best advise I can offer you is to either avoid wearing jeans for 6 months or to buy maternity jeans. I think a lot of my issue was from sitting all day at work in jeans - I could be wrong, but that's my opinion. Even when I was naked, I had muffin top.

    2. Hi - I am also considering upper/lower abs and concerned that you had to do it twice. Did they tell you why that happened? All in all - would you recommend this procedure? It appears to be great for thighs. But I am reading mixed reviews on abdomen.

    3. It seems that my response did not publish :-/ Why did it happen? If I had to guess, I would say because they were more aggressive with this particular area of my body than my arms or thighs. Could that have been avoided? I don't think so - not if I wanted the skin to be reduced as much as possible. Yes, I would recommend the procedure, even if the end result is that your stomach isn't perfectly flat. I have zero regrets.

  2. I was reading your post about when the doctor was sucking out the fat around your trunk section. You described it being super painful. Did you have the option of going under? If so, why did you choose not to be?

  3. Another question...I am considering getting tradtional liposuction on my trun area (stomach, sides back). I am very fit, I work out 4x a week, and would be described as skinny. It's just that I've always gained my fat around my mid-section. And, no matter how hard I work out, I can't lose it. I've gone to two consultations and both doctor's say I'm a perfect candidate for lipo/body contouring. But, I am worried about how my skin will look after the fat is sucked out. I'm worried I'll be trading one problem for another, and I will then have saggy, wrinkily-looking skin. Both doctors said they highly doubt that owuld happen, but that's no guarantee. From looking at your pics, I would say my stomach looks similar to how yours looked in your "before" picture. What has been your experience with the sagginess of your skin afterwards? Thanks SO much for writing this blog!

  4. To answer your first question, the option to be put under was not available. The office did not have an anesthesiologist so to be put under would have cost significantly more to have someone come in and administer it as an independent. From what I’ve been told, I handled it a lot better than most people who have had it done there. The skinnier you are, the more painful it’s going to be because there isn’t a lot of fat between the skin and the bones. That’s what hurts … the metal rod being moved back and forth over your bones. I know that they had one woman who was hysterically crying that the doctor left the room and the assistant pretty much told the woman that she had to calm down and decide if she wanted the doctor to continue. In my opinion, it’s not bad enough for me to say I wish I wouldn’t have done it. It’s like child birth, women do it more than once because they forget how painful it is.
To address your second comment, I can’t speak on what to expect with regular lipo. My honest opinion would be to get laser lipo done if you are concerned about skin sagging. The laser helps to tighten the skin because it’s burning it from the inside. Think about what a burn victims skin looks like – it’s very tight – that’s what happens on the inside. If you don’t have an issue now, you won’t have one after the smart lipo. However, being that you are skinny, I would say you should be more concerned about having a bumpy looking stomach. Look at the last picture .. http://mysmartlipoexperience.blogspot.com/2012/11/before-pictures-smart-lipo-round-3.html
this is what I'm talking about

  5. I have been obsessing about whether or not I want to do lipo for over 5 years now. I've researched so many different doctors and places. You are the first person online that I have found who has really described the whole after process, thank you!

    1. You are so very welcome! That's the reason why I decided to do it. When I was trying to decide whether to do it or not, I had a very hard time finding anyone's real life experience that wasn't associated with a medical office - which made it seem less real to me. I'm glad that you found the information helpful. Best of luck no matter what you decide to do :-)

Lymphatic Drainage Massage Appointment 2

I went again today for another lymphatic drainage massage.  The massage therapist told me that I had a lot of fluid congestion in my hips.  I also have a crease right above my pubic area that just seems to be where my skin naturally folds when I sit down.  It's so deep that when I lay flat all night long, it's still hasn't worked itself back to normal by the next morning.  She spent a lot of time cupping that area, drawing the fluid to the top to pull out the skin. Today's appointment was pretty painful, I'm not going to lie.  But it's also very obvious that I still have a lot of swelling and fluid in the tissue.  It's been two weeks since I had the appointment.  It usually takes about 3-4 weeks for the swelling and fluid to finally dissipate.  One interesting thing that she told me was that our skin will take on the shape of things.  This is why it's important for us to wear a variety of clothing, particularly panties.  If you always wear the same p

My Body - Today

I'm sorry I haven't updated pictures in a while.  Not a whole lot has changed other than the fact that I started working out again and went from 165lbs at the time of the procedure to 180lbs today.  I'm still in my size 8 pants but I can feel the difference.  My stomach feels swollen all the time for the extra weight.  No one else can tell because I still wear the body garment but I have got to do something to lose at least 10 lbs.  I'm extremely stressed out right now in my home life which I think is a driving factor, but come the 1st I'm moving so fingers crossed, life will improve tremendously.  Now this picture below, is with the flash on so it looks different than the one directly beneath it even though they were taken seconds apart.  This is what I mean when I talk about dimples on my stomach or bumpy looking.  It's not flat and smooth.  Unfortunately, you never know how the skin is going to reattach itself to the muscle.  You can see that

3-Week Post Procedure Before and After Pictures

Here are my before and after pictures from 3 weeks after the procedure.  Not a whole lot of change in the last two weeks.  Just like the first time.  All the major changes happen in the first two days.  If I would have thought about it, I could have pulled my belly button apart to ensure it looked more normal.  The skin would have adhered accordingly, but instead, I'm stuck with this one.  But I'm ok with it :) I slept without the garment on for the first time last night.  It was nice.  I'm still wearing it during the day while I'm at work as I do a lot of sitting.  I'm still really happy with my decision to buy maternity pants.  I think they've really helped with the smooth healing of the skin.
